Every Thursday: Frank Rizzo Down

FrankRizzoDown

Every Thursday at 4 to 6pm On 15th and JFK in front of the municipal building, The Philly Coalition will be petitioning to remove the Frank Rizzo statue and to end stop and frisk. All support is welcome. For more information, the coalition can be contacted directly at PhillyRealJustice@gmail.com

Philadelphia Police Department’s pervasive use of racial profiling, stop and frisk and recently, endorsement of Donald Trump is ridiculous. It ‘s proof that Frank Rizzo’s racist, homophobic brutal police culture is still alive and well. We must force the Mayor and city council to address that police do not represent the interests of the people in Philadelphia. They worship a tyrant that humiliated, harassed and brutalized black community members, activists and students. Investing millions into policing while leaving our inner city schools in shambles still plagues black and brown communities. We were left with a school district crisis. The removal of the Christopher Columbus statue in Argentina and the Cecil Rhodes statue in Cape Town is a testament to the path of restorative justice. Replacing the statue is the first step in having this city acknowledge it’s terror against Philadelphia community members and finally opening up a transparent dialogue.

Every Thursday at 15th and JFK: End Stop and Frisk

EndstopandFrisk

Philly REAL Justice Coalition will be in front of the Municipal building every Thursday at 4:00pm as part of the campaign to remove the Frank Rizzo Statue and ending Stop and Frisk among other discriminatory police practices.

The issues around U.S. corrupt policing is highlighted by the epidemic of racially charged stop and frisk procedures. Philadelphia residents of color have suffered some of the most blatant rejection of constitutional rights by violent and discriminatory policing. An overwhelming amount of stop and frisk incidents have been found to be done without valid reason and often end in meaningless arrests or at worst, violence. Mayor Jim Kenney, who garnered many votes as a result of his platform to end stop and frisk is in no rush to implement this promise and must be held accountable.

No More Mummers

The Coalition is currently organizing around this platform. To find out more about the campaign and/or how to get involved you can contact the Coalition directly at PhillyRealJustice@gmail.com.

The age old South Philly tradition of white colonists and immigrants basking in blackface is more than a day of drunken racist and homophobic escapades. It is a culture that perpetuates violence which the city allows to occur. Every year we watch our city allow the public drinking, drunken belligerence, and trashing of center city streets, the same actions that result in arrests for people of color in Philadelphia. Last New Year’s Day, the Philly Real Justice Coalition conducted a disruption of The Mummer’s parade where parade attendees harassed people of the LGBTQ community and people of color. We must continue the disruption of both the mummers and their sponsors until the event is addressed properly. Philadelphia must either dismantle the parade, or better control the bigoted attendees. We also must see reciprocated energy in providing people of color with as much space and safety from the city.

A march filled with anguish, pain, anger was also filled with spirit, energy, solidarity and hope for community empowerment. As a multifaceted call for self determination, the masses demanded black community control of police, an end to stop and frisk, ending U.S exploitation and occupation of Haiti, Puerto Rico, Palestine etc. and a divestment from the democratic party until black lives are prioritized both here and abroad.

The Philadelphia Coalition for REAL Justice presents:
Black Resistance March against the DNC: We Have Nothing To Lose But Our Chains!!

The Democratic Party has consistently betrayed their promises to the Black community and the 2016 presidential election is not going to be any different. The presidential election is the largest electoral process in the country, and the Black community can no longer watch a few control the lives of many. Black communities have been underfunded for centuries. Black communities are under siege with militarized police terrorism, assault and murder; public schools are underfunded and do not properly educate our children; economic development means bla...ck displacement through gentrification; prison privatization and the school to prison pipeline; raising the minimum wage to a living standard; the right to proper access of quality healthcare, food, shelter and the essential means of life; protection and inclusion of the LGBTQ community, as well, the releasing of all political prisoners and the right to self-determination and control of our communities. This can only come from the unification of our voices, understanding the intersectional connections, education and support of one another and not the democratic process.

Philadelphia is a historically Black city, as well as the birth of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Both documents have kept the Black community subjugated. The American political system was organized and created by white men who supported and upheld the enslavement of Black people. These documents continue to function under the order of white supremacy and neo-liberal reformists politics. Black liberation cannot occur in a reformist society. White supremacy must be abolished and Black liberation must become a priority.

The DNC is set for July 25th -28th. There are multiple groups and thousands of people coming into the city; some to support, protest, organize, disrupt, get arrested, etc. We cannot allow this political moment to be whitewashed like the Occupy Movement. We must capitalize off of this moment with one goal in mind; and that is to resist the capitalist and racist power structures that allow white supremacy and capitalist oppression to flourish. It’s time to build power, PEOPLE POWER!

Shut Down the DNC

Progressives, socialists, peace activists, feminists, environmentalists: Let's build a united front to take on the racist, capitalist Democratic war machine! The Presidential elections that take place every four years bring about only cosmetic changes: different faces running the government while the same billionaire masters still call all the shots. Whether it's Clinton or Trump, Democrat or Republican, police will still terrorize us and low wages will keep us in or near poverty. That is, unless we fight back! WE'VE HAD ENOUGH! No more fake "democracy" in our city! NOT while racist cops run wild. NOT while our public schools go criminally underfunded. NOT while our people suffer some of the highest pov...erty levels in the country. We demand self-government, not super rich capitalists. Free Mumia and all political prisoners! Reparations now! Women's and LGBTQ liberation now! Abolish capitalism and oppression NOW! It'll only happen if we FIGHT FOR IT!
